Subsea Permafrost Degradation

Subsea permafrost is a relict cryolithic system moving over millennia from continuous ice-bonded sediment toward a fragmented, thawed, and hydraulically more permeable state. It should not be treated as a static frozen slab — it is a long-duration transitional system whose degradation represents the observed restructuring of the Arctic barrier separating ancient gas and organic reservoirs from the modern marine system.
